The Iconic Estate wines from the Alexandrion Group portfolio won medals at the largest and most influential wine competition – Decanter World Wine Awards 2020

 

The Iconic Estate wines, from the portfolio of Alexandrion Group, sold locally and internationally, won medals at the largest and most influential profile competition – Decanter World Wine Awards 2020 (DWWA). Wines from the Mythological Collection, Rhein Extra, Colina Piatra Albă, Byzantium, Prahova Valley, La Crama and La Umbra ranges obtained very good scores, meeting the requirements in terms of quality, taste and well-balance between shades and notes, of the 118 international experts – among which 37 master oenologists and 9 master sommeliers – who made up the jury of the competition. The Iconic Estate wines have competed with over 16,000 other wines from countries such as France, Italy, Australia, Portugal, USA, China, South Africa and South Korea. At the 17th edition, Decanter World Wine Awards 2020 took place in London, and the tastings lasted 28 days.

 

Colina Piatra Albă – Alb wines (blend: Chardonnay, Viognier, Fetească Albă) and Byzantium Rosé (Shiraz) won two silver medals, obtaining over 90 points. The silver medal is awarded by the jury to very well made wines, with impressive complexity. Rosé White Stone Hill – Pinot Noir and White Stone Hill – Red (blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc) were awarded bronze medals, while Byzantium Blanc (blend: Sauvignon Blanc, Fetească Albă, Chardonnay) won a mention.

Two of the wines from the refined Mythological Collection: Hyperion – Pinot Grigio and Hyperion – Fetească Neagră, were awarded a bronze medal and a mention at Decanter 2020. Obtained from the most valuable Romanian grapes variety, Hyperion – Fetească Neagră delighted the jury through its intense taste and delicious notes of black fruit, enhanced by vanilla and spicey shades.

One of the most awarded wine ranges in The Iconic Estate’s portfolio, Prahova Valley, won 3 medals at Decanter 2020. Fresh and fruity, with taste notes dominated by red and black fruits, Prahova Valley – Merlot Rosé won a bronze medal in within the competition, and Prahova Valley – Fetească Neagră and Prahova Valley – Fetească Regală obtained mentions.

One of the wines from the Rhein Extra range, the official brand of the Royal House of Romania and also the oldest and most recognized brand of sparkling wine in Romania, produced at Rhein CIE Azuga Wineries, since 1892, according to a traditional method in France, was distinguished with a bronze medal at Decanter 2020.
