Alexandrion Group announced the start of the first production of malt distillate, which represents the base of the first malt product in Romania. At 05:00 pm, the first batch of malt distillate was processed in the presence of Mr. Nawaf Salameh, president and CEO of Alexandrion Group, and also in the presence of the vice-president, Stelios Savva and of the entire team dedicated to the project, and also of the specialists with international expertise in this field. This moment marks the inauguration of the project SINGLE MALT, dedicated to the Centenary of the Great Union, in 2018, according to the desire of the president of the company.
Alexandrion Group announced publicly, last evening, the beginning of the single malt production at Alexandrion Distilleries, in a meeting at Hanul Gabroveni, where more than 100 guests participated. So, Alexandrion Group becomes the first Romanian company holding in its portfolio a single malt 100% produced in the country. The decision to produce single malt in Romania is a strategical one, in line with the values of the company – leader on the alcoholic beverages market in our country.

At Alexandrion distilleries it was written a page of history, together with the first quantity of malt distillate produced in the plants purchased by the company. Because the base of a qualitative beverage, as it is the case of all products of Alexandrion Group, is represented by the raw materials and, therefore, they shall be carefully selected. For the beginning, the company shall use imported raw materials, but we would like to use, in the future, inland raw materials, for single malt 100% produced in Romania. The product shall be distilled twice and shall be stored in barrels and maturated for at least three years in the wine cellar from Bucov, Pleașa.
At the event within which it was announced the beginning of the single malt distillation at Alexandrion Distilleries, there also participated independent international experts, who supervised the entire process, from the drafting of the project, malt fermentation, up to distillation.
”I have worked in the industry for more than 30 years and one of the most important actors for the production of a qualitative whisky is the time. The distillate must be kept for at least three years in oak barrels, but even if we have to wait, I am convinced that Alexandrion shall register success with the whisky produced in Romania” (Tony Kavanagh, independent international expert).
The team of Alexandrion Group benefited from the expertise of one of the well-known Scot specialists in the field of single malt production, who is in the first ten world specialists in single malt distillation, who supervised not only the beginning of the production from Pleasa, but also the mounting of the equipment with which the distillation was begun.
Nawaf Salameh, CEO, president and founder of Alexandrion Group, received in 2016 the title of Keeper of the Quaich, a moment which marked an important contribution to the increase of the single malt market in Romania, where record sales were registered for this category in our country.
