Constantin Brancoveanu Days in Horezu

The Constantin Brâncoveanu Days, an event organized by the Alexandrion Foundation in collaboration with the City Hall of Horezu with the blessing of the Archdiocese of Râmnic, were held on October 18-20 and debuted in an atmosphere full of spirituality and historical culture, under the blessing of Hurezi Monestary.

The event “Constantin Brâncoveanu Days” highlighted, in two sections, Brâncoveanu`s  influences at the present time: the conference “Constantin Brâncoveanu – Genealogy and history” and the essay and literary creation contest “The sacrifice of Constantin Brâncoveanu”.

The motivation of organizing this event was given by the president of the Alexandrion Foundation, Mr. Nawaf Salameh: “In Romania, it is necessary to promote the correct, fair behavior patterns, thus valuing principles of moral conduct. The Brâncoveanu family illustrates a model of loyalty, dignity and humility in faith, following the healthy development for future generations. In the Alexandrion Foundation the value of the family is honored and we try to promote it. “, he said.

The debate with the topic “Constantin Brâncoveanu – Genealogy and History”, held in the Divan hall, within the Royal Palace (the current museum of the Hurezi Monastery) represented the official opening of the days dedicated to Saint Martyr. The second section of the event, held at the Culture House in Horezu, Vâlcea county, referred to the award ceremony of the winners of the essay and literary creation contest “Sacrifice of Constantin Brâncoveanu” previously launched.

The conference “Constantin Brâncoveanu – Genealogy and History” debuted in an archive room, through the speech of the academic Răzvan Theodorescu, executive president of the Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards:

“After the Constantin Brâncoveanu Awards Gala, Constantin Brâncoveanu Days in Hurezi follow in a direct, logical and successful continuity. It is a new initiative of the Alexandrion Foundation that complements the previous initiative. Today, practically, we inaugurated these days, Brancoveanu, and I hope that in the coming years we will know what to do from this place as Brancoveanu. ”Concluded he.

The choice of the Hurezi Monastery as a framework for the first part of the event “Constantin Brancoveanu Days”, is motivated by the quality of this building to be part of the UNESCO patrimony, being at the same time a brâncovenesc foundation.The ruler Constantin Brancoveanu took special care of the existence of this place of worship, representing the place where he wanted to find his eternal tranquility.

At the presidium of the speakers they joined the moderator acad. Răzvan Theodorescu, dr. Laurențiu Stefan Szemkovics, author of the paper “Documents from Constantin Brâncoveanu regarding the Argeș Monastery (1688-1703)” and Mrs. Iuliana Mateescu, coordinator of the film project “Maria, Lady of all Ungrovlahia”.

Her opinion was made known through a moving monologue, which sensitized the wide audience, reminding about the moral architecture of femininity: “I approached the Brâncoveanu family trying to get to know, to get closer to their souls, to their family, to what they were as people beyond them being personalities of history. […] I am glad that such meetings are still happening in Romania. I think it was an event with a special load that felt in the room. ”

 

 

 

The mentions of Dr. Laurențiu Ștefan Szemkovics called for the assimilation of artistic and historical concepts:

“The material I presented today, entitled << Coats and seals on documents issued in the chancellery of Constantin Brâncoveanu, referring to the Hurezi Monastery >>, presents with the help of heraldry and sigilography, coats of arms of the frontispiece of these documents and the most representative seals. which validates the documents in question. […] I would be glad that in the future the Alexandrion Foundation will organize and also support such top cultural events and even today it was a reference because it was organized in the most representative monaral monument in the country. ” , said Dr. Szemkovics.

 

 

The second part of the event was materialized in the award ceremony of the winners and the essay and literary creation contest “The Sacrifice of Constantin Brâncoveanu”. This year the competition was addressed to the high school students from the “Constantin Brâncoveanu” High School in the city of Horezu. From the 22 participants, the winners of the competition were nominated: Maria Teodora Vulpe, 1st prize, Anca Drumeși, 2nd prize, Vasile Rareș Prodescu, 3rd prize, Andreea Elena Vlăduț, mention, Țepuși Raluca Elena, mention and Florentina Ioana Iana, special mention.A dance and folkloric music show preceded the award-winning festival.

 

The local community expressed a special interest for the event “Constantin Brancoveanu Days”, a project that is part of the rich portfolio of the Alexandrion Foundation, having the opportunity to get closer to the values ​​embodied by its spiritual patron, the ruler Constantin Brancoveanu.
